How do I make a Chicago style footnote in Microsoft Word/Word for Mac/Office365 or Google Docs?

Answer

Microsoft Word/Word for Mac/Office365

1. Place the cursor where you want the footnote to appear in text.  It should go outside the period at the end of your sentence.

2. Click “References” in the top menu

3. Click on “Insert Footnote”

4. A number will appear in-text where you placed the cursor and a space to enter footnote text will appear at the bottom of the page.

Google Docs

4. A number will appear in-text where you placed the cursor and a space to enter footnote text will appear at the bottom of the page.
