How do I cite a book chapter in APA?

Answer

To cite a book or ebook chapter in APA, you include information about the chapter as well as information about the book.  Typically you only cite the chapter when each chapter is written by a different author(s), this type of book is referred to as an edited book, and cite the entire book when the chapters are all written by the same author(s).

A citation for a chapter from a print edited book looks like this:

Chapter author last name, Chapter author first initials. (Publication/Copyright Date). Title of chapter: Chapter      subtitle. In Book author first initials, Book Editor Last Name (Ed). Book title: Book subtitle (pp. Chapter      page numbers). Publisher.

Phillips, A. (2012). The cultural cringe (1950). In S. Heath (Ed). Meanjin anthology (pp. 31-37). Melbourne      University Publishing.

A citation for a chapter from an edited eBook looks like this:

Chapter author last name, Chapter author first initials. (Publication/Copyright Date). Title of chapter: Chapter      subtitle. In Book author first initials, Book Editor Last Name (Ed). Book title: Book subtitle (pp. Chapter      page numbers). Publisher. URL.
