How to cite sources that have more than one author in AMA reference list?

Answer

All authors are listed with last name and the initials of the author’s first and middle (if provided) names without periods or spaces between the initials and without a comma after the last name.

To cite sources with more than one author in AMA refer to the examples below for articles with up to 6 authors:

One Author: Smith TE

Two Authors: Smith TE and Jones ST.

Three Authors: Smith TE, Jones ST, Doe JD.

Six Authors: Smith TE, Jones ST, Doe JD, Smythe EF, Doyle ED, Clarke EC.

When a source has more than 6 authors, list the first 3 and follow it by et al.

Smith TE, Jones ST, Doe JD, et al.
