How do I cite a book or eBook chapter in MLA?

Answer

To cite a book or ebook chapter in MLA, you include information about the chapter as well as information about the book.  Typically you only cite the chapter when each chapter is written by a different author(s), this type of book is referred to as an anthology, and cite the entire book when the chapters are all written by the same author(s).

A citation for a chapter from a print anthology looks like this:

Chapter Author Last Name, Chapter Author First Name. "Title of Chapter." Title of Book, edited by Editor First      Name Editor Last Name, Book Publisher, Publication/Copyright Date, Chapter pages.

Phillips, Arthur. "The Cultural Cringe (1950)." Meanjin Anthology, edited by Sally Heath, Melbourne University      Publishing, 2012, pp.31-37.

A citation for a chapter from an eBook anthology from the library databases looks like this:

Chapter Author Last Name, Chapter Author First Name. "Title of Chapter." Title of eBook, edited by Editor      First Name(s) Editor Last Name(s), Publisher, Publication/Copyright Date, Chapter pages.      Database Name, URL for eBook.

A citation for a chapter from an eBook anthology from e-readers (Kindle, Nook, iBooks, etc.,) looks like this:
