How do I request something through InterLibrary Loan (ILL)?

Answer

ILL does not have a catalog that can be searched to see what is available, so you need to have information about a source before you can make a request.  You can find this information in library databases, from Google Scholar, or even Amazon if it is a book.

When you are searching library databases:

  1. You will be provided with links to find full text and it will take you to a page to find the material in another library database or a page that has a link entitled “Request this Item with Interlibrary Loan.”
  2. Click on this link and login with your Marist username and password.
  3. ILL will open with the request form filled out for you.
  4. Double check to make sure it is all correct.

If you aren’t searching the library databases:

  1. Search for the title in FoxHunt first before requesting it through ILL.
  2. Then click Login to your ILL Account on the Library’s ILL page.
  3. Click “Create Request” on the right hand side of the page that opens.
  4. Select the type of item you are requesting in the top menu (Article, Book, Book Chapter).
  5. Fill out the form with all the information you have about the item.
    1. Having an ISBN will speed a request for a book so use Amazon or Google to find the ISBN.
    2. You must have an ISSN to request an article. Check out the library’s guide “How to Find an ISSN” for help with this.

You will receive an email when your item arrives at the library or electronically in the case of book chapters or articles.

If you need further help, contact a librarian.
