Q. How to indent just the second lines of citations in Google Docs?

Google Docs does not have a preset to create what is called a “hanging indent,” which only indents the second line of text in a citation.

But you can make Google create one.

To do this:

  1. Place your cursor on the second line of your citation and hit “Enter” or “Return” (this separates them into separate lines of text).
  2. Then hit tab to indent the second line only.
  3. If you have more than 2 lines in your citations, repeat this process for subsequent lines.

If you make changes to your citations, you’ll need to reconnect the lines of text by hitting backspace or delete.  You’ll need to then repeat the steps above to create the hanging indent again.

If you need further help, contact a librarian.
