How do I make in-text citations for AMA in Google Docs and Word?

Answer

In-text citations for AMA take the form of superscript numbers.  Use the following steps to make them:

  1. Type a number next to the information you are paraphrasing or summarizing

  2. Highlight it

  3. Click the Superscript option

    1. Google Docs:

      1. Click on Format in the top menu

      2. Click on Text

      3. Click Superscript

    2. Microsoft Word/Word for Mac:

      1. Click on the Icon for superscripting text in Microsoft Word icon in the toolbar

    3. Office 365 Word:

      1. In the toolbar click on the 3 dots next to font color and highlight

      2. Click Superscript

Menu in Office 365 where superscript option can be found

You do not need to include anything else in text unless, narratively, it makes sense to mention the authors.
