Where should I start my research?

Answer

Each research question is unique and there are different ways to approach a topic.

Some good starting points for your research are:

  1. Course Guides: Some courses have specific guides curated to help you with the research for the class assignments and topics.  Look for your class in the list, organized by course number.  The Course Guide will have an assortment of databases, journals, books, reference sources such as encyclopedias, and websites that are relevant to your course.
  2. Subject Guides:  If your course does not have a specific Guide, you can look for a subject guide that most closely matches your topic or course from the alphabetical list.  Subject Guides bring together databases, journals, reference sources and websites specific to the field or topic.
  3. FoxHunt:  If you do not have a Course Guide and are unsure if there is a Subject Guide that matches your topic, you can use FoxHunt to search almost all of the library databases in one search.  This will frequently return a large number of results so be sure to use the search limiters on the left hand side of the search results to narrow your search.
  4. Librarians are available to help you in the library, on the phone, and via chat.

If you need further help, contact a librarian.
