What are the rules for capitalizing titles in citations for a Spanish assignment?

Answer

Spanish uses MLA citation.  While MLA usually requires that every major word in a title be capitalized, Spanish writing and citing has different rules for title capitalization.

Capitalize only the first word of the title unless it is a proper noun.  For example, a person’s name, a book title, short story, or poem.

  • El invierno de nuestro desazón or Cuentos de Eva Luna
  • “El pachuco entre Octavio Paz y el trayecto para su reinvención en Zoot Suit de Luis Valdez”
