How do I cite an encyclopedia entry in MLA Style?

For entries with an author, MLA recommends the following:

 

Author Last Name, Author First Name. “Title of Entry.” Title of Encyclopedia, edited by Editor's First Name Editor's Last Name, Edition if given and not the first edition, vol. Volume Number if more than one volume, Publisher, Publication Date, page range for entry (if provided). Database Name, URL.

For entries without an author, MLA recommends the following:

 

“Title of Entry.” Title of Encyclopedia, edited by Editor's First Name Editor's Last Name, Edition if given and not the first edition, vol. Volume Number if more than one volume, Publisher, Publication Date, page range for entry (if provided). Database Name, URL.
