How do I cite Twitter in APA Style?

Answer

APA recommends citing a Tweet in the following format:

Last Name, First Initial [@twitter handle]. (year, month day). First twenty words of the tweet. [Image Attached].* [Tweet]. Twitter. URL

*A description of any included links or images should follow the full text of the tweet in brackets.  Language for this is  [Image attached], [Video attached], [Thumbnail with link attached]. The above shows a tweet that included an image.

Lakoff, G [@George.Lakoff]. (2021, October 21). Orwellian language points to weakness. When you hear Orwellian language, note where it is, because it is a guide to where they are vulnerable. Note: this example is for a tweet with a link to an article on the web.
