How do I cite the notes I took in class in CSE Style?

Answer

This question reflects guidance provided in both the 8th and 9th editions of CSE Style as both agree on the formatting and style.

Your professor may not require a citation for your notes, but check in with them to be sure.

CSE recommends citing the notes you took in class as unpublished materials with yourself as an author.  These would also only appear as an in-text citation and not in your references.

CSE recommends the following format,

First Initial. Last Name (Year class notes; unreferenced)

J. Smith (2020 class notes; unreferenced)

OR

(First Initial. Last Name, Year class notes; unreferenced).

(J. Smith 2020 class notes; unreferenced).
