How do I cite presentation/PowerPoint slides from class in Chicago Style?

Answer

This question has been updated to the 18th edition of Chicago Style. If you are using 17th edition, see this Library Handout, Purdue OWL, or contact a librarian.

Your professor may or may not require you to cite slides from class, so check with them.

If that's not possible, Chicago recommends citing a presentation as follows:

1. First Name Last Name, “Title of Lecture,” medium, sponsorship, location, Month Day, Year.

1. Anthony Jones, “Origins of Thought,” PowerPoint, Marist University, Poughkeepsie, NY, April 12, 2021.

Presentations should only be cited in the footnotes or text and not the bibliography.

If you need further help, contact a librarian.
