How do I cite an interview in MLA?

Answer

MLA divides interviews into two broad classifications: 

  • published interviews, such as those in a magazine or newspaper, with and without a known interviewer.
  • personal interviews (interviews or correspondence) conducted by you, the writer, and are not publicly available. 

 

Published Interviews: 

Interviewee Last Name, First Name. “Title of Interview.” Interviewed by First Name Last Name, Source of Interview,  Date, pp. page numbers (if applicable), URL. 

 

Rooney, Sally. “The Beautiful World of Sally Rooney.” Interviewed by Olivia Marks, British Vogue, 9 Aug. 2021, https://www.vogue.co.uk/arts-and-lifestyle/article/sally-rooney-interview.

 

Personal Interviews:

Interviewee Last name, First name. Interview. Conducted by Your First Name Your Last Name, Day Mon. Year.

 

Doe, John. Interview. Conducted by John Smith, 9 Nov. 2023.
