How do I cite a webpage from a website in CSE Style?

Answer

CSE Name-Year Style recommends:

For websites with an individual author for the page:

Author Last Name First Initial(s). Year Mon Day (if available). Webpage title. Publication Location for Website      Creator (State/Country Abbreviation): Publisher (name of website or organization); [accessed date      (formatted accessed Year Mon Day)]. URL.

Graham R. 2017 Feb 6. Long overdue: why public libraries are finally eliminating the late-return fine. Slate.      New York (NY): The Slate Group; [accessed 2024 Jun 12]. https://slate.com/culture/2017/02/librarians-are-      realizing-that-overdue-fines-undercut-libraries-missions.html.

For websites without an individual author for the page:

Website Creator.* Copyright date for website (formatted cYear). Publication Location for Website      Creator(State/Country Abbreviation): Publisher (can be the same as creator). Title of webpage;      date of webpage (if available) [accessed date (formatted accessed Year Mon Day)]. URL.

James A. Cannavino Library. c2023. Poughkeepsie (NY): James A. Cannavino Library. Ask-a-librarian;      [accessed 2023 Aug 22]. https://libguides.marist.edu/ask.

*This could be an organization, business, parent company for the website, etc.

Many webpages will not have specific dates, refer to the Library’s FAQs on “How Do I Cite Sources that Don’t Have a Date?” or “How Do I Cite a Webpage that Only Provides a Copyright Date Range?”

If you need further help, contact a librarian.
